Paringa-Clarke crossing, Hooker Wilderness

Crossing from the Paringa into the Clarke. Adrian checks out the route before committing with heavy packs. Descending into the Clarke involved negotiating the cornice and facing the abrupt assault of the Southerly gale on the other side. On the Pass there was hardly a breath of wind - only the clunk of chunks of ice falling out of the sky. The Southerly was being deflected vertically by the steep valley head on the Clarke side, the flow was indicated by jet streams of spin drift shooting 20m into the air before dropping lumps of ice. I've not seen anything quite like it.
