Cass-Lagoon Saddle, Cragieburn Forest Park

Norwest conditions, looking from Lagoon Saddle on the Cragieburn Ranges across the Waimakariri to Arthur's Pass. The Crow valley joins the Waimak on the left. This is a common sight; a wall of rain at the edge of Arthur's Pass - it will be a hot dry day further east. In Christchurch, those that don't know otherwise will think you're having a great time. Tramping in the Cragieburn's is a better option in this weather. This photo is taken at the end of the classic Cass-Lagoon saddle trip - a very nice tramp which you could run in a day if you wanted to.

  • Climbing on Mt Rolleston (about 6km further west).
