Cragieburn, Porter's Pass |
Cragieburn, on the way to Arthur's Pass from Christchurch. This is classic high country scenery - the type of land occupied by the large South Island sheep and cattle stations. Sheep are farmed mainly for wool production in the high country. The big tussock valleys (700-1000m) and hills (2000m+) are typical of the drier East Coast. This photo was taken early in the morning from the highway near Flock Hill station. A classic tramp, the Cass-Lagoon Saddle trip begins nearby.
