Mt Taranaki, North Island

Mt Taranaki at sunset from the central plateau (near National Park). The dormant volcano is 2500m high and exhibits almost perfect symmetry, the only asymmetry being Fantham's peak (the little vent (bulge) on the left). The range to the right is the eroded remains of an even older volcano. The Wanganui National Park intervenes between Tongariro and Egmont (Taranaki) National Parks.
