Snow caving on Mt Bealey, Arthurs Pass National Park

A cosy candle-lit snow cave on Mt Bealey. Unfortunately, the weather turned 180 degrees from Nor'west rain to a cold snowy southerly... despite the forecast for an increasing Nor'wester. So our south facing entrance made things a little cooler than we would have liked. However, this was just a fun trip to practice snow caving and alpine cooking... Catherine produced a very successful trifle... after doing battle with the MSR. All in all, snow caves are a very reliable form of alpine accommodation and a snow shovel is light, however, I still like my tent. Unfortunately snow caving takes a bit of effort and time to dig! ...unless you use Adrian Monk's secret fast method.
