Haast Ridge, Mt Cook National Park

Haast ridge - the main route up to the Grand Plateau on Mt Cook... other than helicopter and ski plane! The 30km+ Tasman Glacier continues up to Tasman Saddle in the background. The bottom of Haast Ridge is a bit hairy due to recession of the glacier (the moraine wall is an unhappy place to be). Easier access is gained via Fresh Fields Glacier, just a bit further up the Tasman. That route rejoins the ridge at the point shown in this view. Adrian Monks has a Mealmates stop while I catch my breath.
