| Although scenic, the walk up the Matukituki valley is a long way - especially when followed by the steep 1700m climb up French ridge to the Bonar Glacier carrying a climbing pack. On this occasion Norwest conditions meant that ascending the ridge was hot and humid - arguably worse than being cold and wet. |
